WHAT'S HAPPENING IN JUNE AT THE FLORIDA STATE FAIRGROUNDS

[NEWS RELEASE] TAMPA, FL. - May 30, 2009.  Summer is on the horizon and the Fairgrounds is the place to be, offering a variety of entertaining indoor and outdoor events taking place near the corner of I-4 and U.S. Highway 301 in eastern Hillsborough County. A brief listing of the upcoming month's events is provided followed by a detailed event description.

Ongoing Weekly through the end of June: Country Tea Time at Cracker Country
Groups of five or more are invited to come and experience a cup of Victorian tea with a twist of country every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday starting at 2:30 p.m.  Learn about this significant 19th century social ritual and take home a souvenir of your afternoon gathering. The tea cost is $20 per person and lasts approximately one hour. This program will only be offered through the month of June and the last time to enjoy this special event will be June 26, so make sure to make reservations for your group now. Reservations are required in advance to attend. Parking is free for this event when visitors enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. June 1-4: SDHC High School Graduation
The School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC) will hold senior graduation ceremonies for local area high schools in the Expo Hall. Parking is $5 per car and $10 per RV or bus. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the U.S. Hwy. 301 entrance. June 2: Concert - No Doubt with Paramore
No Doubt with special guests, Paramore, will perform in concert on Tuesday, June 2 at the Ford Amphitheatre. The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $80 and $24.50 for reserved seating, $80 for PIT area, and $10 for lawn area seating. Both the PIT area and lawn area are general admission; no specific area is assigned for seating. There will be a parking fee and service charge added to the price of each ticket. All dates, times, and acts are subject to change or cancel without notice. Rain or shine. Tickets to all Ford Amphitheatre events can be purchased in person at the Ford Amphitheatre Box Office or online exclusively at http://www.livenation.com/. June 6: Hands-On History Tours for Youth Groups (ongoing monthly)
Held in Cracker Country, the hands-on history tours for youth groups are offered the first Saturday of every month, except in February, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Cracker Country. Give your youth organization the opportunity to learn about the past and become a part of it. Led by knowledgeable historical interpreters, kids can spend the morning experiencing life as a Florida pioneer through hands-on chores and practices of the late 1800's. The tour cost is $5 for students ages six to twelve and one chaperone is admitted free for every 10 paid admissions. Youth groups may stay after the tour to enjoy the new “Discover the Past” program at no additional cost. Reservations are required in advance with a 10-student minimum per group. Parking is free for this event when visitors enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. June 6: Discover the Past (ongoing monthly)
Imagine what it was like for settlers of rural Florida living in 1898 -- use your senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing to relive this time from Florida's past. The event is held in Cracker Country on the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except in February). It is a fun way for families to spend an enjoyable day together by learning new activities like churning butter and tasting it, making a rope, spinning wool into yarn, or helping to plant crops. Adult admission is $6, children ages six to 12 years old and senior citizens enter for $5, and kids five and under are admitted free. Parking is free for this event when visitors enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. Reservations are not necessary for this event. June 6-7:  Suncoast Gun Show & Sale
One of Florida's premier gun shows returns to the Charles M. Davis Special Events Center. The Suncoast Gun Show and Sale features firearms-related accessories including gun parts, gun-related tools, knives, cases, locks, cartridge boxes and belts, and ammunition for collectors. Show hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, children 12 and younger are admitted free. All persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. The Concealed Weapons/Firearms Safety Course fee is $45 per person. The classes are offered on both days at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and last approximately 2 hours. Appointments are not needed for these classes, nor are firearms. Parking is $5 per car or $10 per RV or bus for each time a vehicle enters the grounds. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the M.L.K., Jr. Blvd. entrance. June 6-7: PCHA Non-Rated Horse Show: PCHA Non-Rated Horse Show
The Pinellas County Hunter Association (PCHA) hosts a two-day horse show featuring horses and riders competing in hunter, equitation and jumper classes at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center. Competition begins at 8 a.m. each day. There is no set end time; daily activities conclude when the last horse competes. Please inquire with the show office for entry fees to participate in the show. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Participants and visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. June 12-14: Tampa Bay Summer RV Show
The Florida RV Trade Association will host a summer RV sale for three days at the Fairgrounds. Dealers from all over Florida will showcase new and used motorhomes, travel trailers, folding tent campers, and fifth wheels on display inside the Expo Hall. There will also be booths selling supplies and accessories and companies representing campgrounds, finance, and insurance needs. Demos are available for road test. Show hours are Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 per adult and free for children less than 16 years of age. June 13-14: Hot Summer Nights Dressage Show
Bay Area Dressage will host a two-day, USEF/USDF recognized dressage horse show held at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center. There is no set end time; daily activities conclude when the last horse competes. Please inquire with the show office for entry fees to participate in the show and the schedule of performance times for each day. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Participants and visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. June 17: I-75 Project Development & Environment Studies Alternatives Public Workshop
The Florida Department of Transportation will host a two-hour public workshop to show alternatives being considered for improvements to I-75 from Moccasin Wallow Road to north of Fletcher Avenue. The event will be held in the Florida Center building from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and is open for anyone to attend.  Admission and parking are free. June 18-20: Fourth Annual Summer Fun Horse Show   
The Avalon Riding Academy presents a three-day, open breed horse show in the Covered Ring at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center.  Entry fees vary by class for qualifying, academy, and stake/championship classes. Please check with the show office for show times for each day. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Participants and visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. June 20: FWRHA Horse Show
The Florida Walking and Racking Horse Association (FWRHA) will host classes for all levels of riders with Tennessee Walking, Racking and Spotted Saddle horses in the Covered Ring at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center.  Please inquire with the show office for show times and entry fees to participate.  Admission and parking are free for spectators. June 23: FSFA Board Meeting
The Florida State Fair Authority (FSFA) will have a Board Meeting on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Florida Center. Agenda items to be discussed will include old and new business; plus reports from the finance, marketing and long-range planning committees. The public and media are welcome to attend. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance; parking is complimentary for this event. June 26: Concert - Toby Keith with Trace Adkins
Presented by Ford F-Series, Toby Keith will perform in concert with special guest, Trace Adkins, on Friday, June 26 at the Ford Amphitheatre. The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $65.50 and $45.50 for reserved seating, $40 super saver offer for two reserved tickets, $25.50 for lawn area seating, and $80 for a four pack of lawn tickets. The lawn area is general admission; no specific area is assigned for seating. June 27: Concert - Kid Rock with Lynyrd Skynyrd
Kid Rock will perform in concert with special guest, Lynyrd Skynyrd, on Saturday, June 27 at the Ford Amphitheatre. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $76, $56, and $46 for reserved seating, $26 for lawn area seating, and $99 for a six pack of lawn tickets. The lawn area is general admission; no specific area is assigned for seating. June 27-28: Florida International Reptile Show
This reptile and exotic animal expo will feature top reptile and amphibian breeders from across the southeast.  In addition, there will be reptile pet products and supplies, live animal presentations, educational seminars and displays, and fun-filled activities for the entire family. Held in the Charles M. Davis Special Events Center, event hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for ages 13 and older, $5 for children ages 5-12, and free for kids ages four and younger. The VIP ticket price is $10 per person and can be purchased online. VIP ticket holders will gain early entry into the show at 9 a.m. on Saturday only.  All VIP tickets are held for pickup at the VIP check-in table at the event under the name used for purchase.  VIP tickets are good for both show days. Parking is $5 per car or $10 per RV or bus. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the M.L.K., Jr. Blvd. entrance. June 27-28: Tampa All Novice Quarter Horse Show
FQHA will host a two-day, AQHA approved all novice horse show in the Covered Ring at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center.  AQHA Professional Horsemen will conduct clinics open to all breeds of horses from 9 a.m. to Noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Please inquire with the show office for show times and entry fees to participate.  Admission and parking are free for spectators. The Florida State Fair Authority is a non-profit organization which operates primarily from revenues generated from the annual State Fair and other ongoing operations during the year.  Presently, the FSFA does not receive any state tax appropriations from Hillsborough County, City of Tampa, nor the State of Florida.  The FSFA operates the Florida State Fairgrounds year-round in association with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.  Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson leads the Fair Authority Board, which oversees the Florida State Fairgrounds and the annual Florida State Fair.
